Help us fix it before winter, report potholes
14 March 2025
The City of Cape Town’s Urban Mobility Directorate is encouraging all residents and road users to report potholes as part of its ‘Fix It Before Winter’ campaign. With the rainy season approaching, the City’s Road Infrastructure Management (RIM) Department aims to proactively repair as many potholes as possible to help maintain a safer and more reliable road network for all.
Residents across Cape Town report on average 1 400 potholes to the City every month. This allows the department to direct resources to these complaints without delay and allow the prioritising of the most urgent cases.
‘We rely on residents to be our eyes on the ground, in particular as we prepare for the winter rains. By reporting potholes as soon as they are spotted, we can act quickly to repair them before the weather worsens and causes further damage,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.
How to report a pothole:
• Use the City of Cape Town APP
• Phone the City’s customer call centre on 0860 103 089
• Send an email to: contact.us@capetown.gov.za ; or
• log a service request on www.capetown.gov.za/servicerequests
‘Our teams are working hard to keep our road network in good condition. The sooner we know about a pothole, the quicker we can assess and repair it. Together, we can improve the quality and safety of our roads,’ said Councillor Quintas.
The City would like to remind residents that burst water pipes can also contribute to road damage. In some instances, the work carried out on the road is actually a reinstatement following maintenance on underground services, such as water or electricity infrastructure. In these cases, the relevant directorate will repair the road once the service has been restored.
The City remains committed to working closely with all relevant departments to ensure that these reinstatements are completed soonest, and according to the required standards.
The City thanks residents for their ongoing cooperation and urges everyone to report potholes as soon as possible to help us Fix It Before Winter.
